Silicon Valley Bakfiets

I saw two Dutch-style bakfiets (or “box bikes”) in the span of 12 hours. The first was Ginger and her two children last night in San Jose, California

And then this morning I ran into Andrew crossing from Palo Alto into Menlo Park.

It’s a cool coincidence; I’m waiting to run into three to call this a trend.

Both of these bikes were purchased from My Dutch Bike in San Francisco. These bakfiets are made by WorkCycles in Amsterdam.

Highway 1 to open April 16

A 40 foot stretch of Highway 1 collapsed north of Bixby Bridge last week and a two mile segment remains closed to all traffic between Bixby Bridge and Palo Colorado Road south of Carmel. Although Caltrans initially allowed foot and bicycle traffic through the closed portion of highway in Big Sur, the danger of further erosion prompted Caltrans District 5 to close all access on Highway 1 around Rocky Creek Bridge.
