Norcal Transpo Camp Oct 20

Transportation Camp logo

Transportation Camp 2015 takes place next Tuesday, October 20, 2015 in Rohnert Park, California located midway between Santa Rosa and Petaluma in Sonoma County. This one-day Transpo Camp is taking place in conjunction with the California Association for Coordinated Transportation Conference next week.

TranspoCamp provides a good opportunity for citizen advocates to network, learn, and present your own ideas about how transportation should work. At an “unconference” such as Transportation Camp, the session topics and activities are suggested by the attendees. In addition to talks and presentations from big names in transportation and technology, TransportationCamp provides an opportunity for every attendee to be a participant in shaping and leading the event. Be prepared to get involved and meet people. I’ve attended a Transpo Camp and I recommend.

As of this writing, registration still seems to be open and available. Cost is $25.

Transit directions to Transportation Camp 2015

The location is a great getaway for a week-long conference. For a single day event, it’s not quite so ideal for those traveling from outside of Sonoma County. Even by car, this is about an hour and a half trip from San Francisco. Plug the DoubleTree Sonoma Wine Country in Rohnert Park for your destination.

From anywhere in the Bay Area outside of Sonoma County, Golden Gate Transit Route 101 is your only public transportation option. To arrive in time for Transpo Camp 10 AM start, you need to catch the 7:15 AM bus from the Temporary Transbay Terminal in San Francisco. If you want to arrive in time for breakfast and networking at 9 AM, you need to catch the 6:15 AM bus. Transportation Camp organizers say they’ll have a shuttle from the bus stop to the hotel.

For those Napa County and portions of the East Bay, you have seven to eight hours of transit and waiting to arrive at this transpo camp. You can bike the 35 miles between Napa and Rohnert Park faster than you can ride public transportation.

Within Sonoma County, the Roberts Park Park and Ride near the Conference location is served by Sonoma County Transit buses 44 and 48, which travel between Petaluma and Santa Rosa. SCT Route 14 loops around northern Rohnert Park.

More transportation options!

Murph in Sonoma County suggests the Graton Casino Bus, which picks up from all over the Bay Area. The Casino is located across from Highway 101 from the Doubletree Hotel conference site. Fares range from $10 to $15, depending on pickup location.

Another option is the Sonoma Airport Express, which picks up from SFO and drops you off directly at the Doubletree Hotel. 7:30 AM departure from SFO gets you to Rohnert Park at 9:15 AM, $34 each way.
