This kinetic sculpture by artist Ron Shroer in Jacksonville, Florida combines a pedal-powered Jansen’s linkage walking mechanism with a wooden penny-farthing style wheel.

Happy Monday to my readers, both regular and irregular. These two people on bikes were among the seven cyclists I saw this morning trying to work their way across Montague Expressway where the Guadalupe River Trail remained flooded after the the rain this past weekend. Remember, you can see current trail flooding conditions for several Santa Clara Valley trails at this trail conditions web page.

Last Friday, 24-year-old Kiran Pabla became the city of San Jose’s fourth pedestrian fatality of January, 2015 when she was struck down while jogging down Yerba Buena Road. The city of San Jose had a single pedestrian death in January 2014 in what would be a record breaking year for those killed while on foot.
