Happy Friday the 13th!
I launched a new season of Ride Every Road with this morning’s modest ride to add portions of St John, St James and Julian Streets in downtown San Jose, California to my cycling coverage map.

I run San Jose Bike Train to encourage newcomers to try commuting by bike. Our transit-friendly start point, unfortunately, conflicts with this goal. Free, all-day parking is difficult to find near Diridon Station and Bel Bacio Coffee, where we normally meet.
For 2015, I added VTA Park & Ride lots. A colleague requested parking near Bel Bacio, so I scouted around and found street parking within a half mile of Bel Bacio.

Last Friday, 24-year-old Kiran Pabla became the city of San Jose’s fourth pedestrian fatality of January, 2015 when she was struck down while jogging down Yerba Buena Road. The city of San Jose had a single pedestrian death in January 2014 in what would be a record breaking year for those killed while on foot.

Santa Clara County Roads wants to expand lanes for more traffic, more pollution, more emissions, more noise, and more danger for county residents.
The county plans in particular to give Lawrence Expressway more interstate highway style features, with grade separation, high speed entry and exit ramps, and higher speed limits.
Plans for San Tomas Expressway and Lawrence Expressway will be presented to the public at tonight’s meeting beginning at 6:30 PM at the West Valley Branch Library, on San Tomas Aquino Road at Saratoga Avenue, San Jose, CA.
