Four Highway 9 projects are in the early phases of project development in Santa Cruz County, California, ranging from project initiation to environmental document development. Among these is planned installation of two miles of centerline rumblestrips and guardrails where Highway 9 runs through Castle Rock State Park south of Skyline Boulevard.

Caltrans released their staff recommendations for the Statewide and Small Urban & Rural Components of the 2015 Active Transportation Program (ATP). ATP staff selected four Santa Cruz County projects among the 27 projects recommended for Small Urban & Rural funding statewide. The ATP commission must still approve the projects.

The city of Santa Cruz invites the public to participate in workshops to develop a new Active Transportation Plan. Development of this plan will prioritize active transportation and help the city win funding grants from outside sources to pay for this stuff.

I parked bikes at a street fair the other weekend in Capitola, CA where three people told me they were visiting from out of state, heard the riding was wonderful in Santa Cruz so they brought their road bikes. “Where should we ride?” they asked.
