London UK Mayor Boris Johnson proposes a lorry ban for central London, suggesting low carbon vehicles can take up the slack in moving goods from supplier to retailer. For the Americans, lorry is a UKism for truck. Elly at Grist wonders if cargo bikes can replace trucks for deliveries. Another suggestion: a city wide network of pneumatic tubes — you know, what Winston Smith used to deliver documents for his job at the Ministry of Truth.

Trials riders in Iran of all places! And you know what? There’s even a heavily used bike share in Tehran. And Tehran begins mass transit planning.

Maybe you’ve seen this already, maybe not: The Rails to Trails Conservancy will deliver a petition to the AAA asking them to rescind their opposition to Federal funds for non-automotive infrastructure. I’ve never been a member of AAA, but I signed the petition.

December 7 is Pearl Harbor Day — the anniversary of the Japanese sneak attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii in 1941. I grew up knowing it as “Slap A Jap Day” (I’m half Japanese).
