Had to come into work this morning for some maintenance, so thought it would be a good idea to wrap the weekend commute into a longer ride. The weather was wonderful at 6:00 a.m. – no wind, 62° F and no traffic. I took off at a good clip, heading downtown for some coffee. (more…)

I know Biking Viking and the rest of you in America east of the Rocky Mountains are suffering through a heat wave, but it’s jacket weather here in California in the middle of July. That means perfect weather for tonight’s San Jose Bike Party ride. The theme: “Mad Science.” Tonight’s ride starts promptly at 8 PM from Taylor & 9th in San Jose, with various feeder rides to the start. Confidential to Ian: No idea yet if I’ll be there or not.
During this weekend’s I-405 closure in Los Angeles, a group of bicyclists will race a JetBlue Airlines flight the 40 miles from Bob Hope Airport in Burbank to Long Beach Airport. Who will win?
Most reviewers of film, food and beverage have unique qualifications which make their word worth a bit more when it comes to what they do. When it comes to socks, specifically cycling socks, the fact that I have two feet (problematic feet at that) and ride my bike a ton allows me to better evaluate the effectiveness of a product that applies to a very specific part of cycling. 8/1/2011 Update: Governor Jerry Brown vetoes SB 582.
The California Senate passed SB 582 — an act to mandate bicycle and transit commuter benefits — this morning. Governor Jerry Brown now has 12 days to either sign or veto this bill.
