He and his company, Fortified Bicycle Company, have now upped that game with a bike designed from the ground up to be resistant to theft: the Invincible.

Last year I kind of introduced a totem pole of danger. It’s the crazy idea that those operating the more dangerous devices should take more care.
I’ve redrawn this as a hazard hierarchy. The wider the triangle, the more careful you should be. Apologies for my lack of graphic design skills, but I hope it helps to illustrate the concept.

Happy Hump Day, all. I have a pro-tip for those of you who load bikes onto front-loading bike racks on public transportation before I begin this edition of bike photos in the news. Those bus bike racks have a spring loaded arm that’s used to secure the bike in place. Sometimes, the lock pin used to secure this arm falls out, so ensure that swing arm is secure. This morning, I lost this arm for the second time in about 300,000 miles of riding the bus with my bike. The bike stayed on the tray both times, but it doesn’t hurt to ensure the lever is in place ahead of time.

The Santa Cruz County Community Traffic Safety Coalition (CTSC) are working on their next two year work plan, identifying projects to meet the group’s goal of reducing traffic-related injuries, and primarily focusing on improving pedestrian and bicycle safety for those traveling in Santa Cruz County. The next work plan will be effective beginning with FY2016 next June.

Happy Giving Tuesday, you all. California Assemblyman Henry Perea (D-Fresno) has long made it clear that he wants his Central Valley constituents to give their health and well-being in exchange for healthy profits for Perea’s oil industry sponsors.
Happily, Perea announced his resignation today, effective a full year before he terms out of his seat in the California Assembly, telling reporters that he’s taking a once-in-a-generation opportunity to become a professional lobbyist for an as-yet unnamed interest.
