Happy Tuesday. The weather today in the San Francisco Bay Area should be more pleasant than yesterday’s sweltering hot afternoon.

Happy Friday, all. Bike Month continues with all kinds of fun activities. The Amgen Tour of California Women’s Stage Race begins today at South Lake Tahoe (assuming they don’t get snowed out); I’ll be there Saturday to watch the racing.

55 year old George Kaufer of Danville, CA was cycling to his dentist appointment when he was struck and fatally injured by a 1997 Toyota Avalon. According to the Contra Costa Times, the unnamed driver of the Toyota was traveling northound on Crow Canyon Road when she hit Kaufer at Crow Canyon and Tassajara Ranch Drive.
My heart-felt condolences to his family, who are understandably heartbroken over this loss. Kaufer, who leaves a wife and two daughters behind, was facilities manager for the San Mateo County school district and was known for using his bike to get around.

When talking about things like the risks of cycling, you often see silly statements like “California is the second most dangerous state for cycling.” We honestly don’t know how dangerous or safe cycling is, however, because we don’t know how many bikes are on the road.

I’m stoked to see that the people behind Streetsblog have expanded their transportation coverage for the Golden State with the brand-new Streetsblog California.

Those in the San Francisco Bay Area no doubt noticed the cold front that whipped through our region over the Easter weekend. We’re pretty excited about the trace rainfall associated with that weather system. A second, stronger storm should arrive overnight, with a half inch or more of rain expected Tuesday morning.

Remember, you can check the flooding status for selected Santa Clara County Trails on this page.
