3 foot law in the Sentinel

Stephen Baxter wrote a decent piece for the Sentinel about the three foot law coming into effect on September 16. There might be a quote in it from Yours Truly, and of course the usual reader comments following about the law breaking scofflaws that cyclists all are. They don’t provide any solutions, of course, so I’ll suggest my own: give all of those law-breaking cyclists a car, because more idiots in cars will make our roads safer, less congested, and better in every way!

Read it: Cyclists, police prepare for new ‘Three Feet for Safety’ law in Santa Cruz County: New rule requires drivers to keep cyclists at arm’s length.

See NTS Works new ebike at tonight’s Santa Cruz Tech Meetup

NTS Works in Santa Cruz gave me a shot at trying their new “Fat Free” ebike a few weeks ago.

NTS Works found Neal Saiki will discuss the features of this machine at tonight’s Santa Cruz Tech Meetup, which takes place at the Cruzio Green Building on Cedar Street beginning at 6 PM.

Before Neal talks about his ebike and gives one away to kick off a fund raiser for the Aptos High School Robotics Team, JoeBen Bevirt will talk about his latest mad scientist project. JoeBen made millions from his Gorillapod flexible camera mount (remember those?), bought a winery in the Santa Cruz Mountains and began research in alternative energy production using giant kites. His new thing, though, is this electric personal aircraft.

Through the marine layer

I began this morning’s commute in the classic “May Gray” when inland high temperatures 100 miles away creates a pressure gradient, which sucks the “marine layer” of fog into the California coast. Here’s the view over the top of this layer from Mount Tamalpais this morning.
