The Sacramento Grand Prix took place around the Capitol building in Sacramento as a prelude to today’s Amgen Tour of California Stage 1 finish.
The winner of the one hour women’s criterium, Coryn Rivera for Team Peanut Butter and Company, is a 17 year old national champion with gold medals in Road, Track and Cyclocross. Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson, who himself was an athletic competitor, congratulates Coryn on her win.
I’m about to miss the start of the women’s criterium in the Sacramento Grand Prix, but here are a couple of photos from one of the men’s races this morning.
I think I first noticed the Bahati Foundation name when they signed Floyd Landis to the team. A little while later, several people expressed surprise when Bahati was passed over for a Tour of California invitation. Then up and coming Bahati racer Jorge Alvarado was killed when a car driver lost control and hit the cyclist. That’s when I decided to look into the Bahati Foundation; the story is pretty amazing.
