A 58 year old man riding a Giant hybrid bike was hit from behind at about 8:30 this morning on Highway 1 by Bonny Doon Road.
CHP says cyclist was flown to Stanford Medical Center for his head trauma after the the driver of a silver Toyota Tacoma traveling the same direction hit the man. The Santa Cruz Sentinel reports the crash is under investigation; alcohol and other drugs are not a factor. The driver stopped and was not arrested pending investigation of the crash — it’s unknown if the driver served into the shoulder or not.
Highway 1, which has wide shoulders at this location, is popular for cyclists of varying levels.
