Don’t try this at home, kids, even if you’re a professional.

From Tawn Kennedy, who runs the Green Ways to School program for Bike Santa Cruz County in California:
Do you remember the record 23 Category 4 & 5 Hurricanes I mentioned last Friday? One of those, the one-time Category 4 Hurricane Olaf, is now a tropical depression tracking towards the California coast. By the time it reaches us it will be a low-pressure system bringing possible rain and wind, especially along the coast and especially north of about Santa Cruz.
Rain may happen on Wednesday. Conditions will dry Thursday, when you’ll have a chance for new KOMs and PRs with winds of up to 20 MPH out of the north beginning mid-afternoon. Have fun!

Revelers ride bicycles during Oktoberfest on October 24, 2015 in Blumenau, Brazil. The city, founded in 1850 by Dr. Hermann Bruno Otto Blumenau and seventeen other German immigrants, helds its annual Oktoberfest last weekend. An estimated 30 percent of the city’s 320,000 residents are of German descent. Its Oktoberfest is one of the largest in the world and attracts hundreds of thousands of people.
Dust off your raingear, California cyclists: rain is likely this winter throughout most of California. Predictions have firmed up considerably for epic rain due to El NiƱo conditions beginning in December or January for Northern California.

They do therapy for people who are afraid to drive a car, so why not something similar for cycling?
Did you know Stanford University offers counseling to people who want to try more “eco-friendly” transportation and need encouragement? Here’s the course description from the Stanford School of Medicine Health Improvement Program (HIP).

The instructor, Jane Rosten, is Environmental Behavior Change Manager for HIP and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), which means she is credentialed by the state of California’s Board of Behaviorial Health to provide counseling. I don’t know the details of this beyond the class description here, but I’ll try to contact the counselor who teaches this class and fill you in on the details.
Rosten is also one of the instructors for the winter cycling class taking place next Tuesday.
