California Highway Patrol identified last week’s hit and run victim north of Santa Cruz as Joshua Laven. Laven was biking on a cross-country tour from Florida to San Francisco when he was hit in the middle of the night and left to die on the side of Highway 1. Laven’s dog, a 5-year-old Cairn terrier named Ozziet, remained at his side until police came to investigate.

A dramatic video capturing the hit and run of a pair of cyclists on Tunnel Road in Berkeley California went viral among cyclists around the world, and Internet sleuths identified the vehicle within hours and reported the vehicle to the Berkeley Police Department. A look at the California Highway Patrol dispatch logs show that cyclist hit and runs are a common occurrence.

Hit and run against two cyclists in Berkeley California.

Be on the lookout for a black Acura Integra with damage on the passenger side, possible partial plate CA 3LTM91 or 3LTK904.

Update: The rider posted to YouTube: “Thank guys for your support! Yesterday I went to the police department and I reported the crime. I also gave the video to the police officer. It was possible to identify the number of the car on the video. The police have located the car and the owner. Now I’m waiting for the return of the police on the case.”
