A guy driving a 12 foot wide flatbed truck down Old San Jose-Soquel Road got stuck behind a pack of cyclists. He stayed behind the cyclists for several miles, but honked when he was finally able to pass. He’s surprised the cyclists reacted with the one finger wave and a water bottle thrown his way and asks how he can keep the peace.

A dramatic video capturing the hit and run of a pair of cyclists on Tunnel Road in Berkeley California went viral among cyclists around the world, and Internet sleuths identified the vehicle within hours and reported the vehicle to the Berkeley Police Department. A look at the California Highway Patrol dispatch logs show that cyclist hit and runs are a common occurrence.

The California Highway Patrol acts as the state police for California. In addition to their well known role enforcing traffic law on California highways, CHP officers patrol the State Capitol building and other state facilities throughout the downtown area. Mounted patrols and bicycle patrols are perfect for the alleyways and numerous small parks in Sacramento’s downtown.
After asking for directions to the Hyatt (which took me the wrong way down a one-way street), I asked these officers if sidewalk riding is legal in Sacramento. “Technically no,” responded the office looking at me, “but if you’re riding at walking speed I’m not going to hassle you about it.”
