Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper announced his state will spend $100 million on bike facilities at this morning’s People For Bikes keynote as Interbike 2015 launched.

After four years of house arrest and an international travel ban, the People’s Republic of Chinese unexpectedly returned the passport of Ai Weiwei, giving the internationally renowned artist the opportunity to visit a show featuring his sculptures at London’s Royal Academy of Arts this week. Caltrans released their staff recommendations for the Statewide and Small Urban & Rural Components of the 2015 Active Transportation Program (ATP). ATP staff selected four Santa Cruz County projects among the 27 projects recommended for Small Urban & Rural funding statewide. The ATP commission must still approve the projects.

With 13,000 people displaced from their homes in Lake County, California after the 67,000 acre Valley Fire swept through populated areas, the Red Cross seeks cash donations to help those who have lost everything. You can donate directly to the American Red Cross of the California Northwest.
Various agencies are also collecting donations of goods to deliver to Northern California evacuation centers. The Marin County Bicycle Coalition will take your donation at their headquarters in Fairfax, CA. See a full list of donation centers here.
The third week of September means it’s time for the second San Jose Bike Train for the month. We depart 8 AM from San Jose Diridon Station on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 for destinations along North First Street. We also swing by Bel Bacio Caffe in Little Italy, which has become the preferred meeting spot.
