Man shot at after recovering stolen bike.
A man was driving home from the Capitola Mall when he saw a man riding what he believed was his older son’s bike on Portola Drive. He turned his vehicle around to chase the bike thief. When he confronted the bike thief, the thief dropped the bike and ran away. The man started riding the bike home but a truck pulled up alongside him, words were exchanged and someone in the truck fired three shots from what the father believed was a small-caliber gun.

James Durr stole a bicycle out of a parking garage in Menlo Park and was caught after posting it for sale on Craigslist. He was sentenced to six months in the county lockup and ordered to pay $700 restitution to the bike’s owner.
H/T to my pal Dan for this news, and props to San Mateo County attorney Steve Wagstaffe for prosecuting this case.
Wouldn’t you know it — after I typed this up I saw this article with more details. He’s suspected of stealing several high end bikes.

Chas’ reported the theft of his red Sachs bike and a KHS fixed gear bike out of his garage in Los Altos, CA Monday afternoon by “somebody driving a brown minivan.” (more…)
