Video by California Is A Place. Props to my friend Kit, who writes, “Never underestimate the power of good people with a passion for the bicycle. Even in East Oakland. Especially in East Oakland.” This video is good stuff, and I’ve met the Scraper Bike King Baby Champ and he’s good people.



This kid has heart. Champ Stevenson started promoting Scraper Bikes in Oakland when he was still a teen and is still going strong with it.

How long before we see Mormon missionaries on Scraper Bikes?

Peninsula transportation consternation

Happy Friday, everybody.

A flock of seagulls supposedly knocked out power in San Mateo County this morning. Highway 101 on the Peninsula was closed near Highway 92 during the lunch hour so PG&E could repair the damaged power lines, sending lunchtime freeway traffic onto local streets. And so I ran. I ran so far away.

Caltrans Director Randell Iwasaki approved a Complete Streets Action Plan on Tuesday, March 9, 2010, directing state transportation agency employees to “view all transportation improvements as opportunities to improve safety, access, and mobility for all travelers in Calfornia and recognizes bicycle, pedestrian, and transit modes as integral elements of the transportation system.”

Confidential to Miley: Sweetheart, I’m glad you’re having a good time on that bike, but you look very cramped. You’ll be much more comfortable if you raise your saddle a few inches. Look at Liam’s bike and posture and I think you’ll see what I mean.
